ABUELOS Y NIETOS JUNTOS “Grandparents and Grandchildren Together”

Abuelos y Nietos Juntos (Grandparents and Grandchildren Together) is a project that will bring immigrant children to Guate- mala in July of this year to meet for the first time their grandparents. Inspired by our Guatemalan families in Worthington and their deep desire for their children to know their family in Guate- mala, a group of volunteers will be accompanying these US born citizen children to make this dream come true. In addition, the trip will be made into a documentary by filmmaker Luis Argueta— who recently directed and produced “abUSed” the story of the 2008 Postville, Iowa immigration raid. This will give us the opportunity to share the struggles of our immigrants, and to give them a voice in the discussion of immigration reform which is on the forefront of the political scene now.

The Guatemalan families are working to raise money for this opportunity, and we have scheduled a “Community Awareness Night” (formerly known as “Tip Night”) at the Worthington Pizza Ranch on Tuesday, February 19, from 5-8 pm. The children and youth going on the trip will be serving at Pizza Ranch that night, and donations will be received. They will also get a percentage of the proceeds from the Pizza Ranch, and will be on hand to tell the customers more about how important this opportunity is for them.

If you like pizza and want to support this important cause, please join us at the Pizza Ranch on February 19.

American Lutheran Church has recently started a Love INC Gap Ministry called the Personal Care Closet.
Their shelves are fully stocked with personal care items to deliver to local individuals and families in need. However, they are in need of storage containers to deliver these supplies. Containers will give recipients a way to neatly organize and safely store items. Would you consider helping this ministry by donating 12 or 15 quart plastic storage containers? You will be blessing local families going through difficult times. Containers can be delivered to: American Lutheran Church, 915 Winifred Street. Thank you for showing Love In the Name of Christ!
